The Man Booker International Prize 2009
One of Canada's most celebrated writers, Alice Munro, was the winner of the third Man Booker International Prize in 2009.

Alice Munro was born in Wingham, Canada. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013.
Munro was the author of 13 collections of stories, including Dear Life, and one novel, Lives of Girls and Women. She has received many awards and prizes, including three of Canada’s Governor General’s Literary Awards and the National Book Critics Circle Award in the US.
She was shortlisted for the 1980 Booker Prize for The Beggar Maid and was shortlisted for The Man Booker International Prize 2007. Munro was awarded The Man Booker International Prize 2009 for her overall contribution to fiction on the world stage. She died in May 2024.
