Marina Warner, Chair of the 2015 Man Booker International Prize, has been made a Dame as part of the 2015 New Year Honour’s list. Dame Marina is a previous judge of the (then) Booker Prize as well as being a Booker shortlisted and longlisted author in her own right.
It’s a good year for Man Booker alumni. 2014 Man Booker Prize judge and Professor of English Literature at the University of Oxford, Jonathan Bate, has been knighted for services to literary scholarship and higher education. Ali Smith, shortlisted in 2014 with How to be Both, is to receive a CBE for services to literature.
Dame Marina Warner, Sir Jonathan Bate and Ali Smith CBE join other prominent figures from the literary world to be honoured, including: Dame Carol Ann Duffy, Meera Syal CBE and William Nicholson OBE.
