October Events - Man Booker Prize for Fiction

With less than a month to go now until the 2012 winner is announced on Tuesday 16 October, we are looking forward to a series of events celebrating the prize.

The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, Saturday 13 October

Man Booker Prize Shortlist event

The Inkpot, Imperial Square, Cheltenham, GL50 1UW

Time: 12-1pm

Shortlisted authors Tan Twan Eng; Deborah Levy; Alison Moore and Jeet Thayil will be speaking at an event, chaired by Man Booker Prize Literary Director Ion Trewin. It will be followed by a public signing.

The 1962 Cheltenham Booker

The Inkpot, Imperial Square, Cheltenham, GL50 1UW

Time: 4.00 -5.30pm

Which 1962 book deserves to win our very own Booker? Man Booker Prize Literary Director Ion Trewin and a panel of judges - Sarah Churchwell, Katie Hickman, Sam Leith, Erica Wagner and Bidisha, debate the merits of James Baldwin’s Another Country, Anthony BurgessA Clockwork Orange, John le Carré’s A Murder of Quality, Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook and Edna O’Brien’s Girl with Green Eyes. The event will be introduced by John Coldstream.

Man Booker Prize Readings

Time: 7.30pm

All the 2012 shortlisted authors will be reading and discussing their work at this major event in London on the eve of the winner announcement. The event is chaired by broadcaster James Naughtie and will be followed by a signing.

Man Booker Live, at selected cinemas across the UK, Monday 15 October

Time: 7.30pm

For those unable to make it to the Southbank, Picturehouse Entertainment and the Man Booker Prize have partnered this year to broadcast the Southbank Centre’s ‘Prize Readings’ live via satellite.
