A Disaffection

Patrick Doyle is a 29-year-old teacher in an ordinary school. Disaffected, frustrated and increasingly bitter at the system he is employed to maintain, Patrick begins his rebellion, fuelled by drink and his passionate, unrequited love for a fellow teacher.

 

About the Author

James Kelman

James Kelman was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1946.  His story collections include Greyhound for Breakfast (1987), The Good Times (1998), and most recently If it is your life (2010). His books include A Disaffection (1989), shortlisted for the Booker Prize; How Late It Was, How Late (1994), winner of the Booker Prize; Translated Accounts (2001), You Have to be Careful in the Land of the Free (2004) and Kieron Smith, Boy (2008). Kelman has been shortlisted twice for the Man Booker International Prize.
