Professor Richard Cobb

Richard Cobb CBE was born in 1917 in Essex. He spent several years living in France and wrote extensively on French history, particularly on the French Revolution and occupied France.

He lectured at Aberystwyth, Leeds and Oxford. He was made an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford in 1977 and he help the position of Professor of Modern History at Oxford University from 1973-1984.

He was awarded the CBE in 1978.

He died in January 1996 at the age of 78.
