Colin Thubron is an award-winning British travel writer and novelist, who was appointed a CBE in the 2007 New Year Honours.

Thubron, a descendant of the poet John Dryden, has described his eight works of fiction as his ‘anti-travel books’, nevertheless they are also about discovery. To the Last City, his seventh novel, follows five European travellers as they journey into the Peruvian jungle in search of the ‘lost city’ of Vilcabamba, where the Inca made their last stand against the conquistadors. Of course, what the five really discover is the truth about themselves. Thubron would bring his knowledge of both fiction and the prize to his role as a judge of the 2017 Booker Prize.
