Christopher Hope

Christopher Hope was born in Johannesburg in 1944. He worked as a journalist before moving to London in 1975. His first novel, A Separate Development (1977), was banned in South Africa and won the David Higham Prize for Fiction. His books include Kruger’s Alp (1985), winner of the Whitbread Novel Award; and Serenity House (1992), shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction. His non-fiction includes a biography of the Zimbabwean decorator Robert Mugabe, Brothers Under the Skin: Travels in Tyranny (2003).
