Anthony Burgess

Anthony Burgess is the pen name for John Burgess Wilson who was born in Mancester in February 1917.  His first novel to be published was Time for a Tiger in 1956.  His other novels include The Doctor is Sick, A Clockwork Orange and Earthly Powers which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.  He also published two novels, One Hand Clapping and Inside Mr. Enderby, under the pseudonym Joseph Kell.  He composed a large amount of music in the last twenty years of his life.  Anthony Burgess died in London in November 1993.
